'Like' and 'Would like' - Difference


What is the difference between 'like' and 'would like'?


While "like" and "would like" are both used to express preference, desire, or enjoyment, their difference lies in their usage.



Like


Expresses general enjoyment, preference, or habit. It shows that someone enjoys or appreciates something on a regular basis or in general terms.


Structure: like + (verb + ing) or (to + verb) or noun

(When describing activities, “like” is usually followed by a verb in the "-ing" form.)

Would like

I would like a glass of water, please.
